Probationary Member

During the 6 months of probation, probationary member will meet with the different officers of the department to get acquainted with department policies and equipment. After the six months are up, the officers will discuss progress in the department and recommend voting in as a regular member, not voted in, or spend further time on probation.

Training
Probationary members receive training on:
- Station Rules
- Firefighter and EMS responsibilities
- Fireground responsibilities
- Apparatus response order
- Apparatus function and equipment
- Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Ground Ladders
- Medical Calls
- Fire Streams
- Radio Operations
- Incident Command Structure

Guidelines
- Probationary period lasts 6 months
- Probationary members will be assigned an officer or sponsor member for guidance and questions
- Must complete at least one month of training with their officer or sponsor before being allowed to respond to calls
- On scene of an emergency probationary member must report to a staging vehicle (e.g. ET377, R-177) and remain there until directed by an officer
- No legal infractions
- Must respond to the station for calls (Even if you must pass the call on the way to the station) - No use of blue lights or flashers during probationary period while responding to emergency calls
- No department clothing (Shirts, Sweatshirts, jackets) except for turnout gear which will remain at the station
- No access to the station without a full member present
- No use of door or alarm codes at the station
- Will not hold a seat in an apparatus from a full or more qualified member
- Shall not hold elected or appointed office
- Shall not have voting privileges
- Shall not borrow equiopment from the Brigade for personal use

If these guidelines are not followed the probationary member will be immediately dismissed from the brigade.
