Responding Member

A responding member is an individual that responds to emergency calls.

Requirements
1. Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician and supply proof of the exam to be inserted into his or her personnel file. Per the current SOGs, this will be required, at a minimum, every three (3) years for members age 18-29, every two (2) years for members age 30 to 39, and annually for members age 40 and above, or as recommended otherwise by the Brigade’s physician or the member’s physician.
2. Must attend and participate in four (4) drills within 6 months, including drills designated as mandatory by the Brigade.
3. Must have documented or verified reasons to be exempted from drill requirements.
4. May take EMS or firefighter courses, paid for by the WFPA, with approval of the Chief.
5. May respond to calls with the use of a blue light, provided s/he has a current and valid Blue Light Permit on file signed by a Chief Officer.
6. Must meet the requirements for Active Members in order to vote and obtain the other privileges of Active Membership.
7. Time served as a Responding Member will be counted towards eligibility for Life Membership.
